made to be

My sneakers crunch on crispy leaves this still dark morning.

I notice the illuminescent glow of a walkers backpack up ahead. I ponder – is it battery powered? Or perhaps a brilliant glow-in-the-dark fabric?

As we journey – the backpack suddenly changes from cool white to orange – I spin around and notice the large orange construction site floodlight at my back.

Ah! The material on the bag is reflective.

The bag is specifically designed to reflect the light of the source in which it is turned towards.

I continue to study the fantastic backpack on the journey to work and notice that its brilliance fades as objects block the light source. Trees and even bikes passing by cause the backpack to dim or darken completely – becoming colorless and drab.

I think back over my week. Reflecting on the time I spent in the shade. Losing my glow – blending into my surroundings. The source of my light blocked by worries and activities which I thought were mine to endure alone.

I think also of the time I spent intentionally turned towards God this week, relying on His help. Those were the moments that truly shone.

Like the reflective material on the backpack, the desire and ability to reflect God has been knit into the very core of me. And you.

We are invited as image bearers of our creator to simply make sure we’re facing the right direction. That’s it.

God takes care of the rest.

My responsibility is to make sure I notice the obstacles and blockages stealing my light and find a way to reposition back to my rightful place – face to face with Jesus.

Similar to the way that striking backpack caused me to turn around, seeking the source of the glow, we too, just by being who we are created to be –  will inspire others to turn around and search for the source of the light we reflect – our Messiah, Jesus Christ.

Be encouraged as you go this week – to remember to turn our face the one who makes us glow – and watch how Holy Spirit invites others to search for the source of our light.

Be still and know that I am God

Be still and know that I am

Be still and know

Be still

Be

Amen
